![]() ![]() Aluminum case gets warm, as expected, but nothing you could fry an egg on with these drives. A bit confusing (plug orientation not obvious until pin spacing compared), but the polarity appeared to be correct and no damage was done to 3 new drives. At my most recent order I saw two reviews here noting reversed polarity and carefully examined the diagrams on the new PSU and drive power connector. ![]() Overall Review: I've combined 11 of these since Feb 2007 with Seagate ST3320620AS (320GB) and ST3250620AS (250GB) drives for backup purposes no problems reported so far in daily use. Can solve that with a simple 6-foot extension cord, though. Current version has the brick plug directly into the outlet, and plug orientation is not useful for most power strips (blocks outlets). Though it was clunkier, I almost prefer the older PSU format shown in the Newegg picture, with normal-sized plug for the outlet. Drive spins down automatically on computer shutdown, spins up again on startup (XP system).Ĭons: Blue LED on the front is rather bright, but a small piece of black electrical tape fixes that invisibly if it bothers you. New one-piece PSU has more flexible cord. Updated circuit board design is smarter, neater, easier. ![]()
